Runners/Rollers Up
Every year the Caravan Writers’ Guild holds awards for journalism, to recognise excellence in written and video content within the leisure vehicle industry. Both awards are named in honour of two late, great journalists, and come with a monetary prize, a crystal glass trophy and huge amount of recognition! Usually these awards are given during the annual Guild dinner, held in mid October during the NEC caravan show week, but with things running a little differently this year, each winner and runner-up received the exciting news via a phone call.
Firstly, we’d like to say a HUGE congratulations to Andy Barnett for winning this year’s John Wickersham Award for video, and Judy Smith for winning this year’s Douglas King Award for written journalism. Relative newcomers to the industry, both entrants are extremely worthy of winning and we couldn’t be happier for them!
Secondly… We were incredibly surprised and elated to receive a phone call ourselves, informing us that Stephen and I had both come a very close second place in our respective categories!
John Wickersham Award - Runner Up
Having only just started our YouTube Channel, Stephen was hesitant about entering into the awards in the first place, so you can imagine how thrilled he was to find out that his entry “Wheelchair Accessible Glamping - Omnipod Piccolo Tour” came second place, amongst some very talented people!
This was only the fourth video to be published on our YouTube Channel, and gave a detailed look around a lovely wheelchair accessible glamping pod.
Douglas King Award - Runner Up
I was equally as surprised and thrilled to discover that I had also come second place in the written content award, for my article “Secret Garden” which was published in the May 2021 issue of the Caravan and Motorhome Club magazine.
Having won top place in the last awards, I too, almost didn’t enter. I thought that perhaps my win the first time was a fluke, and that I’d never even get close to it again - But it just goes to show that you don’t know unless you try!
We’d like to say a huge thank you to the Caravan Writers’ Guild and their partner, Kingfisher Insurance, for arranging and sponsoring these awards each year. Thank you also to the judges, who take the time to go through all of the entries and give us some much appreciated feedback.
