Four Seasons of Caravanning

Since the end of the year is just around the corner I thought I’d take a little look back at our first full year with our beloved adventure-mobile.

We can’t quite believe how quickly it’s flown by, yet at the same time it feels like we’ve had it forever. And although it has only been a year, we’ve become so comfortable with the whole caravanning thing- it really is our home from home!

Spring

Since we purchased our caravan towards the end of 2017, so far we had only known winter touring. So when we were on our first trip in spring and the sun was starting to make an appearance, everyone was sitting outside and it was an unusual concept for us- but one that we quickly grew accustomed to.

Campsites were coming alive with colour- seeing bright green leaves, gorgeous bluebells and daffodils in full bloom, you can’t help but want to go exploring. And that’s just what we did!

In April we took our biggest trip of the season, in fact, the whole year- a 2,885 mile tour of Scotland. We had the most amazing time travelling all around the country and were so taken in by the stunning scenery everywhere we went. Although there was still snow on top of the mountains, down at ground level we were often reminded of spring as we passed fields full of newborn lambs and calfs trying to find their feet.

Summer

Spring quickly turned into summer, and with it came gorgeous long days, plenty of barbecues and unusually hot weather.

We were treated to an unbritish amount of sun in the months of June, July and August, which made our caravan trips even more spectacular. Waking up to birdsong we would head straight outside where we’d spend the rest of the day under the cloudless skies, only popping back into the caravan for refreshments and shelter when the sun got too much. We enjoyed many adventures in the summer, including The Cotswolds and around the south coast, but the heatwave peaked during our trip to Brighton, and with the caravans temperature reading 38°c we could have easily been somewhere more exotic!

The long hot days were great but one of my favourite things about summer was sitting outside the caravan under the twinkling stars on cool summer nights, simply enjoying the peace and each other’s company. It was perfection!

Autumn

The trees slowly turned from bright green to fiery reds and oranges, but we didn’t stop exploring there.

In October it was time for some socialising with the loveliest caravaners at the Birmingham Motorhome and Caravan show, then straight after we had the opportunity to try out a new Bailey Phoenix! We had a fantastic time crunching leaves underfoot/wheels in the gorgeous Rutland countryside, and although summer was over, Mother Nature continued to treat us with the best autumn had to offer. From pink candy floss clouds to magnificent sunsets and starling murmurations. It really was a beautiful time to be out and about, and as the leaves continued to fall around us we moved on to the next season.

Winter

You might not commonly associate caravanning with the cold winter months, but these days they are built with fantastic heating and insulation so we don’t see any reason to stop- and waking up to see robins playing in the sparkling frost from the comfort and warmth of your caravan bed, there really is no better start to a winters day.

Towards the end of November we took a lovely long weekend trip to Wareham where we enjoyed crisp beach walks and cosy nights in. Then we had another opportunity to take out a brand new Bailey- this time a Pegasus Grande. We set off on a festive trip and had so much fun enjoying Christmas markets and fantastic light displays, the warm caravan being the perfect home from home to come back to after a chilly day out exploring. It really goes to show that you can enjoy caravanning no matter what the weather is and still have your home comforts around you.

This brings us to the present day and here we are, sitting in the cosy caravan, welcoming in the New Year in the beautiful Peak District- and what a year it’s been! We’ve travelled thousands of miles, seen some amazing sights, met the nicest people, made millions of memories- and we can’t wait to see what adventures 2019 will bring.
